About Us – JDCF
JAMAICAN DIASPORA CANADA FOUNDATION
HISTORY & PURPOSE
The Jamaican Diaspora Canada Foundation (JDCF) is the organization through which Jamaicans and their descendants living in Canada serve Jamaica and Jamaicans globally as one unit.
The JDCF was incorporated in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and officially launched on December 12, 2004. The core objective is to serve and advance Jamaica and the interests of Jamaica and Jamaicans everywhere. The pioneers seek to utilize the skills and expertise acquired by Jamaicans living overseas to add unique and important perspective to Jamaica’s continued growth and development.
The JDCF’s inception brings forth the hope of creating the RENAISSANCE JAMAICAN, thus cementing relationship between Jamaicans in Canada and those in Jamaica.
All Jamaicans by birth, naturalization or ancestry are members of the Jamaican Diaspora, and those living in Canada are eligible to become members of the Jamaican Diaspora Canada Foundation.
JDCF MISSION STATEMENT
The Jamaican Diaspora Canada Foundation (JDCF), in partnership with the Jamaican Government, will outreach to Jamaicans living in Canada for the purpose of enhancing the development of Jamaica, in critical areas including national security, health, social development, business and education, through continuing liaison and collaboration with the Jamaica Diaspora, to impact positively the interest of Jamaicans everywhere. The JDCF will also raise, manage and allocate funds for life-altering initiatives in Jamaica.
JDCF VISION STATEMENT
The Jamaican Diaspora Canada Foundation (JDCF) will become the recognized entity to those within Canada and Jamaica, to advise and support successive governments of Jamaica in areas of need and to be a driving force behind every Jamaican/Canadian association in Canada, in supporting their charter to share the Jamaican culture and assisting Jamaicans in their specific constituencies.
JDCF VALUES STATEMENT
The Jamaican Diaspora Canada Foundation (JDCF) will strive to be respectful, honest, responsible and transparent in all of its dealings with Jamaicans in the Diaspora and in Jamaica. The JDCF will promote consensus decision making and endeavour to support the decisions that are made by the majority and with pride, effectively communicate our pursuit of excellence as we promote a no-harm policy. Board Members and members will be encouraged to be positive stewards and ambassadors of the JDCF as we continue our pursuit of cohesion, mutual respect, accountability, trustworthiness and the ability to carry out the decisions of the board and membership.
HOW THE MISSION IS LAUNCHED
The JDCF draws on the full potential, intellect and financial ability of Jamaican nationals especially those living in Canada, and channel them towards large scale life quality improvement projects, primarily aimed in Jamaica. It protects the interest of Jamaican Nationals and encourages their participation in the ongoing process of national development. The JDCF collaborates with long established organisations, churches and individuals or special interest groups who have been working for the betterment of Jamaica and Jamaicans in Canada over the years.
The JDCF actively engages in identifying areas of needs in Jamaica in collaboration with the Government of Jamaica and assists in remedying these situations, in cooperation with Jamaican Diaspora from other countries, especially in the areas of education, health and social development (such as the health project, the former Rose Town project and the Rocky Point restoration project).
Regional Directors are normally elected in each province and all three territories with some provinces having more than one.
BENEFITS TO JAMAICANS LIVING IN CANADA
The Diaspora gives every Jamaican and their descendants, a voice in what goes on in Jamaica and a chance to help in the development of policies to facilitate returning residents and investment opportunities in Jamaica.
The establishment of a biennial Diaspora Conference in Jamaica, in conjunction with the government, provides a forum for all relevant issues or concerns to be discussed and plans made to implement solutions.
The JDCF Future Leaders portfolio grooms leaders and creates linkages between Canadian youth of Jamaican descent and those in Jamaica and establishes programs that promote and preserve the Jamaican culture.
In order to meet the objectives of the JDCF, the management body organizes many fund raising opportunities on an ongoing basis through various methods such as:
• Brunch/Dinner and Dance
• Charity Gala
• Golf Tournaments
• Future Leaders special events
We aim to communicate activities to all Jamaicans and JDCF members throughout Canada, about special project needs and fundraising activities being planned.
Membership registration is ongoing as we seek to unite Jamaican nationals to champion the mission of the JDCF. Membership fees become due on the 1st January each year. The fees are used to further the cause of the JDCF in administrative and promotional matters.
Membership Fee: Individual – $20
